Capturing Sound Series Course 1: Typical band set-up

Course goals: This six-hour course will introduce the basic concepts of using microphones and direct injection (DI) boxes to capture sound, and how to avoid common problems.

Participants will experience the setting up of drums, bass, electric guitar, piano (electric and acoustic) and a lead vocal, and the how and why of proper microphone choice and placement.

Accompanying the above will be descriptions and discussion of electrical audio levels (mic and line), different microphone types and patterns/proximity, leakage, feedback, phantom power, DI boxes, and cabling room acoustics and considerations for setting up gear; as well as considerations for different playing abilities and music styles.

These courses will be held at Green Needle Records recording studio located 20 minutes outside of Whitehorse and will run from 10 am to 4 pm.
Dates to be announced based on minimum of 10 participants per session.

Each participant will receive a handout of reference material.
It is recommended to bring a pen and notebook.
Participants should bring a lunch and indoor shoes.
There will a half hour lunch break at 1 pm. A full kitchen, including fridge/stove and toaster oven, is available.
Each course costs $99 plus GST, paid in advance.
Courses cannot be recorded or filmed.
